Here is a wonderful interview with Anna Skladmann who has been photographing the children of Russia's nouveau riche. Her shots of these kids haunt me. They are really intense to say the least!

Last week was the 10th anniversary of the biggest art fair in the country. I had been to Miami before but not for ABMB. I was an Art Basel virgin...
You could tell who was from New York because every other person was wearing black even in the 77 degrees weather. Yeah, I saw art. Lots of it, but not super impressed with the 1% of artists lucky enough to show at Basel. The best work was in a satellite fair in the Wynwood district called Seven with galleries such as Williamsburg's Pierogi, Edward Winkleman, P.P.O.W and Bravin Lee. The work of these galleries were not set up in booths but in an open industrial space with room to let the work breathe on the walls, floors, ceiling, etc. It was also so tightly curated that every piece worked swimmingly alongside each other. Their belief is, "the emphasis on cooperation rather than competition." And for me, that's all I need to hear to be convinced that these gallerists are the honest ones. The ones who place art before money. Thank you Seven, for making my time in Miami worthwhile.
Here are some images from my art journey. Enjoy!

It was packed! And rightfully so, with an incredible line-up of reviewers from The New York Times, DDB, PDN, Magnum and tons more. The energy in the room was filled with excitement and maybe even a little nervousness. It can be nerve-racking showing your portfolio to someone who has the power to give you work- yet, in all honesty, these reviews are even better because the advice from the reviewers will undoubtedly improve your work (if you choose to listen.) Here are some shots I took from that evening. Enjoy!

One should really use the camera as though tomorrow you'd be stricken blind.

Please join me for this online only exhibition of Kim Keever and Bruce Checefsky's work. From October 4-November 1
While peering into an alternate universe, such as Kim Keever has created using a 200 gallon glass tank filled with water, it's easy to get lost in the hidden chasms of his landscapes. Bruce Checefsky's flower scans embed themselves so naturally inside Kim's photographs you would think their works are a collaborative effort. Traversing from the macro to the micro and then back again, these artists work in non-traditional photography. Keever's process begins with the tank while bursts of paint languorously form into clouds filling crevasses of miniature flora and fauna. If you zoom in even closer you can imagine Checefsky's garden full of luscious color and sublime movement created by a scanner mounted to a tripod, sometimes catching a petal moving it at will. When your eyes wander through the landscape, simultaneously stopping where the flowers are nestled, it's as if this world does exist somewhere and how special that place would be.0Add a comment
